Digital Tools 7.19.13
Class Reflections
I really enjoyed the presentation by Ginny and Jennifer last
night. It has encouraged me in my quest
to go paperless! I am glad to have
started this process now, while I am mid-way through my program. I can continue to use I Annotate to read and
respond to PDFs and then move them to do a lit review. Unlike Jennifer, I don’t think I can do the
digital books. I would prefer to type my
notes up and move them when I begin the paperless lit review.
I liked the Josh Johnston Atlas ti examples in the text, and
I appreciated you showing us how you do the lit review in Atlas. I can see how valuable it would be to
organize myself this way. I do need to
invest in an additional monitor so that I can move some items off my main
screen. I am someone who sits at the
kitchen table and sorts all of my sources out.
I need to have digital space instead of a big kitchen table.
I feel good about my first skill builder – Mendeley. Again, I think I am learning about this at
precisely the right time. Have enough
stuff to organize, but not too much to be completely overwhelmed with the
task. I also have some peace of mind
that all my info will not be gone in an instant should my computer crash.
I am conflicted about my next skill builder. I could do I Annotate, as it is a new tool
for me and I am using it every day and using it to go paperless. But, after seeing the lit review in Atlas ti,
I wonder if I should try that out. I could
use all my DP articles and notes and organize using Atlas to write my final
paper in that class. Not sure yet…so
many options.
I like your idea about using ATLAS ti to write your DP paper - that's a perfect small scale practice set of literature, I think :) And yes, the second monitor will change your life!
